September 11, 2020 Message from Superintendent Ben Ferney

Valley School District Staff and Families,

The first week of virtual learning is complete! I appreciate the work done by administrators and educators to make this happen and a special thank you to our families that are working through this process with us. There are some important items to share related to our school district:

  • We have compiled the meal service phone call survey and starting Monday September 14th will be using district vehicles on two routes to bring breakfasts and lunches to students’ homes. Families will be contacted and given an estimated delivery time (please flexible as it is our first day trying this).
  • For families not receiving meal delivery, meals will be available to pick up in the Valley School Bus Loop between 8:00-1:00 pm.
  • If you are a family who needs meal delivery for children ages 0 - 18, and you did not receive a call to participate in the phone survey, please call us at 509-937-4021 for support.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of 9-11 and I can still remember where I was when I heard the news of the attack. I was walking through the halls in the basement of Lewis & Clark HS getting ready to teach science and then coach a football after school. The news rattled me. Beyond the victims in and around the buildings there were countless heroes on that fateful day that ‘ran towards the fire’. I am also reminded that during and after the horrible event our country came together and supported one another. Sometimes it takes a tragedy in our country or our personal lives to bring people together. In the end we are always Better Together.

Take care,

Ben
