June 12, 2020 Message From Superintendent Ben Ferney
Valley School District Staff and Families,
We made it and our school year officially ends today!! I would like to give a huge thank you to our staff for working diligently during the closure and in a lot of cases were ‘building the plane while flying it’. While there are too many to list, know that you have my deepest gratitude for your hard work and dedication. Parents, thank you for your patience, understanding, and grace as we navigated the closure together. We will be reaching out next week with a survey to get input on what went well and areas we can improve on for the future. Students, you are the reason we are here, and we miss you!! This closure impacted you the most and hope that you were able to continue your learning. We cannot wait to see you in person- have a safe and fun summer! A few items:
- The current meal service will run through next Thursday, June 18. As you might be aware, we will not be able to deliver meals during the summer and are finalizing our plans considering the survey data collected this week. We will be communicating our summer meal program next week.
- The Valley Early Learning Center starts the summer program next week.
- This will be the last scheduled Friday communication; however, this is not the last time you will be hearing from us and we will be in touch with important items as they come up.
Yesterday, guidance for opening came from the Office of Superintendent of Instruction (OSPI), the Department of Health (DOH), Labor and Industries (L & I), and the Governor’s Office. I have thought a lot about the process of reopening our schools in the fall. It is important that our students are able to be on campus as soon as safely possible to receive the learning and emotional support they need and deserve, and I know our families desire consistency as they consider work schedules, daily routines, and child care issues. Our team is looking into the newly released guidance from the state and has begun exploring options for opening in the fall. Please provide feedback on the survey coming out next week and stay tuned for more information on the fall reopening plans.
No doubt this spring was challenging. My sense is that the coming fall could be even a bigger challenge than this spring. Regardless of what comes our way, I know we will be able to tackle it best by working together. Together is better.
