May 15, 2020 Message From Superintendent Ben Ferney

Valley School District Staff and Families,

As of today, we are completing week nine of the extended school closure. I would like to extend an immense amount gratitude for all the effort being put into helping our students stay on track with their learning through online resources, printed packets, or even a combination of both. With that said, this is not ideal or easy to do from home, yet your commitment to work within our continuous learning plan is critical for continual growth for our students.

The school board meeting on Wednesday, May 20, will be virtual on Zoom. Please check the website if you are interested in attending online and the login information will be available. The website also has information on food services and childcare as a last resort:

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) put together a group of 123 stakeholders that met for the first time on Wednesday. The purpose of the group is to work with OSPI on the considerations related to reopening Washington’s schools and this group should have recommendations completed by mid-June. Valley School District established an Educational Continuity Plan Team in March to develop our initial distance learning plan. This team continues to meet and has begun to discuss the different options/scenarios for the opening of school next Fall. At this point, no decisions have been made on the opening of school for next year and I will be sure to pass on information as comes to the district. Thank you for your patience!

Take care,
