March 24, 2020 Extended School Closure Update

Updates for today:

  • A total of 177 breakfast/lunch meals were served today (delivered and picked up on site) for a total of 354 meals. A HUGE shout out to our Food and Nutrition Services staff AND VL Transportation!!
  • The meal service will continue tomorrow at the Valley School Bus Loop from 9:00-11:00 am and the routes served by district vehicles. The Valley Grange will suspend handing out food and thank you for helping out while you could!
  • If you are a family who needs a meal service for school-age children, and did not get called in the phone survey, please call us at 509-937-4021 for support.
  • Undoubtedly you have heard by now that Governor Inslee issued a 2-week "Stay-at-Home" order. All businesses, other than those deemed essential, will need to close by Wednesday night. We will continue with our food services, childcare (starting up again on Monday, March 30), and extended learning opportunities for students. With this executive order, and for limiting exposure, we are closing all buildings on campus to the public except for the District Office. The current District Office hours are 8:00-4:30 pm.

I’d like to share a silver lining from today because there are some really great things happening right now. I went down to the Bus Loop this morning and saw Valley Bus #8 and the district Honda Odyssey being loaded with meals. Bus drivers, mechanics, and the food service personnel working side-by-side in preparation of the delivery service. This teamwork is a great example of what it takes to coordinate the food service and is an incredible thing to see. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK!!
