Valley Superintendent Accepts New Position

Superintendent Ben Ferney recently announced he has been hired as superintendent for Cheney Public Schools, with the position to start July 1. In a letter to staff, Mr. Ferney shared that while he had not been looking to leave Valley School District, he and his family discussed that, should a position ever open, he would be interested in working for Cheney Public Schools again. Mr. Ferney previously served as assistant principal at Cheney Middle School. Cheney’s current superintendent, Robert Roettger was selected in March as the new superintendent of the Northeast Washington Educational Service District (NEWESD 101) in Spokane.

About leaving Valley, Mr. Ferney expressed, “I have cherished my time here and have immense respect for our dedicated staff, the students and families we serve, and our outstanding school board. While I am genuinely excited about the new opportunity in Cheney, at the same time it will be difficult to leave people and a school district I love.” Mr. Ferney has been superintendent of Valley School District since July 2018.

The Valley School Board is working with NEWESD 101 on the process of filling the position of superintendent for Valley schools.
