November 5, 2021 Valley School District Update from Superintendent Ben Ferney
Valley School District Staff and Families,
We learned Friday morning, one student in 1st grade and another student in 3rd grade each tested positive for COVID-19. Through contact tracing and in coordination with Northeast Tri County Health District (NETCHD), we determined that both the 1st and 3rd grade classrooms need to be closed from Monday, November 8th through Friday November 12th. Both classrooms will resume regular operations on Monday, November 15th, with students able to return to school following standard quarantine and testing guidelines.
On social media, there was a posting with concerns about Valley School’s COVID-19 isolation space. The purpose of the isolation space is to provide a location for symptomatic students awaiting parent pick-up. The isolation space is the hallway in between the locker rooms located off of the gymnasium and always has an unlocked egress door to the outside for safety purposes and exiting the building. The space has a drinking fountain and an adult is present for the majority of the time. In addition, the space is visible from the main office and staff are usually present in the gymnasium. In response to the concerned family today, law enforcement reviewed the situation and determined we were following appropriate protocols. Parents with ongoing concerns can reach-out for additional information.
Closing classrooms is not an easy decision as we understand how it may affect students, staff, parents, and the community. We are continuing to implement mitigation steps such as distancing, extra cleaning and disinfection, and masking on campus to provide the safest learning environment possible for our students and staff.
