Valley School is a K-8 school located in scenic Valley Washington. Throughout its long and esteemed history, the Valley School has provided area students with the highest standard of education and has worked, and will continue to work, closely with families and the community.

Founded in 1885, the Valley School honors its fine academic history with an innovative approach—the Core Knowledge and Spalding curriculum, and an intervention support system that works with each student’s needs.

The mission of Valley School District is to provide a positive educational experience which will assist all students in developing skills, competencies and attitudes that are fundamental to being a contributing and responsible citizen. The school promotes effective skills by:

1. ensuring that student acquisition of the basic skills takes priority over other school activities, and
2. providing appropriate facilities and a staff with high expectations who will encourage students to reach their highest level of achievement, and
3. encouraging family and community involvement in the educational process.

The first Valley School was built in 1884—the same year the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor—on land near the Colville River donated by a local rancher, Harry Weatherwax. In 1902, the owner of the local lumber mill, John Kulzer, was tired of his children riding across Valley on horseback every day for school, so he proposed and built the old white school house in East Valley where the present day Valley School is located. In 1962 the Valley High School closed its doors due to budget cuts and students were bussed to local area high schools. In 2010, Valley High School reopened its doors with the Paideia High School.
