High School and Beyond
The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) is a Washington graduation requirement for every student. It's a process and tool for students, parents, and teachers to guide students through high school and help students take ownership over their learning during high school while exploring their values, strengths, passions, and long-term goals. Plans are personalized and designed to help students set, visualize, and work to achieve goals.
A High School and Beyond Plan is one of the three components, along with Credit and Subject Area Requirements, and Graduation Pathway Options, that Washington students must complete to achieve a high school diploma. A High School and Beyond Plan should include, at a minimum, a career goal, identification of educational goals, a four-year high school course plan, and identification of assessments necessary to achieve goals.Starting in middle school, students work with their families and school staff to create their High School and Beyond Plan based on their own Personalized Pathway Requirement. They continue to revise their plan each year throughout high school as their interests or goals change. Good planning will help outline student goals and course selections for the next four years of high school.
