Pete Whittekiend grew up in Elk, Washington, while attending Riverside High School. Following high school he enlisted in the US Army as a combat engineer. He completed his BA in Education with an emphasis on math and social studies at Eastern Washington University and earned a master’s degree through Lesley University in Massachusetts. During his master’s program he discovered that technology is of great interest to him, and he found that he enjoyed tinkering with new technologies to help students learn and comprehend concepts more clearly.
Pete’s first teaching job was at Selkirk School District where he taught a Algebra, Geometry, Alg 2, Pre Calculus and other classes for 14 years. He later took a position in the high school math assessment and research department at K12 Inc., working online from his home for 2 years. This is his 4th year at Paideia.
Pete and his wife, Christy, have been married for 20 years and have eight children. We are currently building our home in Valley. Though baseball is Pete’s passion and he is a die-hard Seattle Mariners fan, he and his family also enjoy: AWANA, our church family, hiking, climbing, gardening, cutting firewood, eating fresh ice-cream, watching a good movie, swimming, athletics and sledding. We are excited to get more involved in the community now that we are settled in the area.
