Valley is a small, rural community, tucked in the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains. With the changing times, the community is redefining itself from the natural resource-based economy of the past to a mixture of continued natural resource extraction, technology, health services, education, and small business entrepreneurship. Increased telecommunications access is providing greater career opportunities and a high quality of living makes Valley an attractive place to work, live and raise a family.

Valley School District Programs
Valley School
Family Choice Education is the philosophy that drives all decision-making in the district. The Valley School serves 241 K-8 students in its traditional classrooms and another 1,428 students in its virtual learning program (see Columbia Virtual Academy below). The Valley School has 84 staff members working to provide a quality education in a friendly and supportive environment.
Interdistrict Cooperative High School
Valley School District's cooperative high school program, in partnership with Loon Lake, Orient, Orondo and Summit Valley school districts, provides an innovative high school education that is diverse and flexible, meeting the many needs of students. Made available by ESHB 2913, a bill which allows two or more non-high school districts to form an interdistrict cooperative high school, this option lets students remain in their resident district and enroll in a program that is theme-focused, multifaceted, accelerated and creative. This option is being made available starting the 2010/2011 academic year and is currently enrolling students.
Columbia Virtual Academy
Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA) is the District’s parent partnership program with over 1,800 K-12 students enrolled through Valley School (K-8 only) and its partner districts across Washington State. Family Choice Education is the philosophy that drives all decision making in the Valley School District, giving the district its family-friendly feel. Because of this philosophy, the Valley School Board established a small, local program in 2003, which began serving the needs of families and of students who, for various reasons, chose not to attend a traditional public school. This blossoming alternative learning experience (ALE) program quickly grew within the district. In 2005, changes in state law opened the door for statewide enrollment and partnership with any school district in the state. CVA is as a public school program that strives to ensure a personalized focus on the learning needs of each child. The program currently employs 41 staff supporting parents as the first and most important educators of their children.
VL Transport Center

The Center is designed as a cooperative with free membership available to any public agency in the region. Co-op members realize substantial cost savings through bulk buying power and quality, locally-available expertise and service. |
